Democrats Want To Close Borders But Not The Way That You Think

Democrats are certainly working to keep people on their toes these days. With the massive losses in last year’s election, maybe they think that they need to make bold moves to galvanize their political base.

I don’t know.

What I can tell you is that I didn’t expect to see Democrats arguing that we need to close U.S. borders. That isn’t something that they’ve supported in decades now.

But, I guess, they’ve come around. Frank Fang writes,

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) is seeking information from Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regarding the seizure of illegal firearm parts trafficked from China.

Krishnamoorthi, ranking Democrat member of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, announced on May 30 that he had sent a letter to CBP Acting Commissioner Pete Flores. His letter cited a report that found that many illegal weapon parts from China were seized earlier this year at the postal processing center at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago.

“Too many Americans have died from the epidemic of gun violence,” Krishnamoorthi wrote in the letter. “We must all do our part to save lives and keep our communities safe, including by preventing the import of illegal weapon parts from the PRC [People’s Republic of China].”

Oh, wait… it’s Krishnamoorthi doesn’t want to close the border to anything or anyone except… gun parts?

I see.

I guess that the Second Amendment is lower on Krishnamoorthi’s list of laws to pay attention to than, possibly, any other law.

Now, whether an American should buy weapons parts from China or from somewhere else is a topic for another day (and, maybe, another place). What I can say, though, is that I believe the Second Amendment is absolute in its writing and meaning. And that means that there shouldn’t be any restrictions on the ability to purchase guns or gun parts.

So, it’s utterly ridiculous that Krishnamoorthi is upset about imported gun parts while not doing anything to decrease gun violence in his own state where the problem isn’t imported gun parts.

But anti-gunners are like that, and, sadly, I’ve learned not to expect better from them.
