Unless you’ve been living in a cave (or making or re-manufacturing your own ammunition), you know that ammunition shortages have been going on in the U.S. for months.

You would think that the situation would change, that either the supply would catch up with the increased demand or that the demand would slack off so that the supply can catch up. Who knows what will happen?

One guy seems to think he knows, though, and he has good reason to think that: he’s the CEO of Smith & Wesson. So, what does S&W’s CEO think? Jack Phillips tells us,

The CEO of one of the largest U.S. gun manufacturers, Smith & Wesson, said that the current ammunition shortage is showing no signs of improving amid reports of Americans continuing to purchase record amounts of firearms.

Over the past year or so, according to FBI data, gun sales in the United States have skyrocketed amid uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, Black Lives Matter demonstrations and violence, and Democrat officials’ proposals for more state and federal gun-control measures.

“It’s widely known the ammunition shortages continue,” said Smith & Wesson CEO Mark Smith in a Fox Business interview on Thursday. “There is still a lot of interest in firearms.”

He noted that Smith & Wesson shipped nearly 2.5 million units last year, up 70 percent from the previous year.

A firearms market research firm, in a report released late last month, found that about 80 percent of American customers said they experienced issues trying to find ammunition in 2020.

Smith also said, “We do not see demand softening in the near future.”

So, there is your answer. People are still buying firearms in droves, and they want ammunition to go with it, along with the already existing demand that people who already own firearms have for ammunition. It looks like ammunition shortages are going to stay for at least a little while longer.

  1. “” Unless you’ve been living in a cave (or making or re-manufacturing your own ammunition) “”
Even with reloading your own ammunition you have a problem getting primers and powder …

    • This true and it a manufactured shortage by the Federal Gubberment goons because it is sexier to lean on Ammo producers that actually grabbing guns. The Gubberment has almost taxed ammo out of sight. I do not know how or what %age the bastards have jacked up to but a box of 06 none month ago when you could find it was $27 and before it was around $16 for 20 ands.
Bend over USA the democrats are in charge and we are scerwed as legal citizens.

  2. I think these gun and ammunition manufacturers are in on the hype and fear sales tactics. Always follow the money. They’re raking it in! Selling the same guns for two or three times more than they would’ve sold for two years ago. Likewise with the ammo only the profit margins are even higher. They probably fill these corrupt politician’s offshore bank accounts.
Learn to be self sufficient people! Provide your own NEEDS. Only buy from corporations your WANTS.

  3. I do not believe this story one little bit. No one has any ammo to sell. They don’t have ammo for old owners nor do they have ammo for new, never before owners of guns. Either the dealers are stock piling the ammo or the manufacturers are not producing the amount they claim for whatever reason.

  4. If you want to lower the price of ammo, instead of spending all your spare cash for ammo, spend a good amount supporting 2A candidates for Congress and Senate.
Then support a strong Constitutional President.
Throw the bums out and put the Nation back on track.. Guns and ammo will be available and much cheaper, plus, your dollars will go further as soon as We fire the “tax and spend” congress.

    • Absolutely 100% correct!
By the way, here in West Jordan, Utah, my local gun range, Legacy Shooting Center once again has a nice selection of firearms in inventory for sale and ammo but like most other locals, the price is much higher than a couple years ago!
I do get regular notifications from Ammo dealers I.e. Ammoman, Cheaper Than Dirt, Brownells and others that they have ammo in stock.

  5. Another more feasible option is this: BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT!! ACQUIRE AND LEARN TO USE PROGRESSIVE RELOADING EQUIPMENT, PURCHASE YOUR COMPONENTS, AND CRANK OUT ALL THE AMMO YOU NEED, FOR EVERY CALIBER, OR GAUGE OF FIREARM YOU OWN!! You might also MAKE some cash by custom loading AMMO for other LOYAL PATRIOTS.

Just remember….EXERCISING your 2A RIGHTS PROTECTS THE REST OF YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS!! You’ll need PLENTY of AMMO ON HAND for that, job, so…get your RELOADING gear, and get to FULL SCALE PRODUCTION!! If folks do this in EVERY STATE, and KEEP it COVERT, then whatever moves BEIJING BIDEN is ordered by his CHINESE MASTERS to make against our 2A RIGHTS, we’ll be WE’LL PROVISIONED for AMMO to FIGHT THOSE MOVES!!

    SEMPER FI!!!

  6. I reload and can assure you finding powder and especially primers to reload with are hard to find. Brass and bullets not to much but everything is really getting pricey. Presses, dies, scales, trimmers all of it is getting more expensive.

Dealers are definitely one of the big problems. You go or call their stores and they either tell you they don’t have any powder or primers but you can go the Gunbroker auction site and see them putting all the powder and primers at an ridiculous buy it now or starting bidding price.

  7. I live in the WORST state, NJ, for anything gun related and have NO problem finding ammo on the net, It just costs WAAAY more than it did 2 years ago. However in the past 2 months, availability and costs are getting better, You just have to put the time and effort and you can find it

  8. The ammo makers needs to be doubleing the ammo supply. In the constitution when it says the right to bear arms don’t just mean your gun is just for self protection but also to protect YOURSELFE from a OPPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT . SO NO MATTER WHAT BIDEN AND HIS CRONIES SAY DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR GUNS IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL IF THEY ARE VIOLATING YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS YOU USE THAT GUN IT IS WITHIN YOUR RIGHTS TO DO SO. AND THAT IS WHY THINGS ARE GOING THE WAY THINGS ARE TODAY. PEOPLE DONT WANT TO STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES . AND TO THIS GOVERNMENT EYES THOSE WHO DO STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES ARE CRAZY. JUST LIKE IT IS A VIOLATION OF YOUR RIGHTS FOR THIS COMMIE IN OFFICE TO SAY HE WILL BRING THE MILITARY AGAINST THE CITIZENS. THAT IN IT SELF SHIULD HAVE HAD HIM DRUG OUT BY THE SEAT OF HIS PANTS AND KICKED OUT THE DOOR OF THE WHITEHOUSE. THAT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION OF YOUR RIGHTS.
