One of the bizarre and frustrating (and, in this case, dangerous) things about our modern society is how easily people can proclaim themselves to be experts on a subject, and the ignorant blindly swallow that lie hook, line, and sinker.

You can see that situation in nearly every field when you search through YouTube videos. There are people who are, very definitely, experts, and there are other people who, if you have even the tiniest bit of knowledge on the subject, are obviously woefully unqualified to give advise on the subject.

You see that every day in the world of politics and the mainstream legacy media when they talk about firearms and how to minimize gun violence, especially school shootings and other mass shooting situations. Anti-gunners put forth clueless people like David Hogg as if they have any idea about what they’re talking about when they don’t.

One person who does, clearly, know what he is talking about when it comes to firearms is Massad Ayoob. You can see some of Ayoob’s bio below:

Massad Ayoob has been handgun editor of GUNS magazine and law enforcement columnist for AMERICAN HANDGUNNER since the 1970s, and has published thousands of articles in gun magazines, martial arts publications, and law enforcement journals. He is the author of some twenty books on firearms, self-defense, and related topics, including “In the Gravest Extreme” and “Deadly Force,” widely considered to be authoritative texts on the topic of the use of lethal force.

The winner of the Outstanding American Handgunner of the Year Award in 1998, Mas has won several state and regional handgun shooting championships. Ayoob was the first person to earn the title of Five Gun Master in the International Defensive Pistol Association. He served 19 years as chair of the Firearms Committee of the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, and several years as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association. In addition to teaching for those groups, he has also taught for the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and the International Homicide Investigators seminars.

Ayoob is one of the people who knows what he’s talking about when it comes to firearms use, and he has some very definite opinions about how to stop school shootings. You can watch his video below (language warning).

Ayoob nailed it. Gun free zones are hunting preserves for psychopathic murderers. Let’s call them what they are.

When it comes to school shootings, the way to prevent them is to have someone armed and trained on site who can respond immediately. Despite what anti-2A zealots keep saying, no one is trying to force any teacher to carry a firearm who doesn’t want to carry, but to prevent a teacher (ideally, multiple teachers) from voluntarily training and carrying firearms on school premises is to set up a situation where would-be mass murderers will continue to specifically target our children in schools. Because those are easy hunting grounds.

It’s not appalling that anti-2A zealots want to prevent willing teachers from carrying on campus in order to protect children. No, it’s not appalling. It’s contributing to the murder of those innocent children.

We need to stop pretending that gun free zones and not carrying firearms are good things. They aren’t. The only people “helped” by gun free zones and by preventing legal carrying of firearms at all times are the criminals who get to up their kill counts because of those policies.

  1. If you haven’t read any of Massad Ayoob’s books I suggest you find some of them and read them. Two that I have and think are worth having and reading are “Stress Fire” and “In the Gravest Extreme”. Good information and well written by a “been there, done that” person.

  2. As a retired law enforcement officer I am in complete agreement with Massad. I have argued against the ridiculous notion that a sign was going to stop a mad man. I remember supervising staff telling us that is a good thing as it gives us another charge against the offender. How foolish !!

  3. My father (God bless his soul) always told me to fight force with force. In my 25yrs. as a police/sheriff’s officer I practiced his advice in Camden City New Jersey during it’s hey day as one of the most dangerous cities in America and loved every minute of it. My fathers advice was spot on as are the points you make. My only regret is that this countries far left leaders don’t espouse this agenda.

  4. I have said the same thing for as long as I can remember. Gun free zones, that’s telling the criminal/idiot exactly where to commit there crimes. Putting a sign up, that’s just a constant reminder to the loose cannons out there. The old saying applies outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns, it’s really that simple.

  5. Do you like having to defend your schools? This guy is not old enough, as a great many living today are not, to know what actually would stop shootings in schools. It has northing to do with firearms at all and would almost completely cancel the need to ever have to defend any school with them. It is more simple than can be imagined. Simply stop teaching children that entitled selfishness is a virtue. Restore elevation of self respect as the one true virtue and send “self esteem” to the ash can of history where it belongs. If children are reared in the difference between the embrace genuine freedom which requires constraint and its deadly counterfeit, phony license, schools shootings by students will stop. There have been horrific assaults upon schools over the years but few conducted by students before 1970. Any guess why this is? Inhuman filth in….inhuman filth out. That is the elephant in the classroom for which you have your enshrined “educators” to blame

  6. It’s not the gun that kills the gun is in my eyes a tool used for hunting animals in the wild to survive in if necessary it’s the psychopath who has the gun that kills exactly right every school should have a few trained people that are armed to prevent innocent children that have their whole life ahead of them who knows what they could have turned out to be in life they are the future of this so called that sure isn’t what it used to be I think they should still think an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
