Republican Senators Are Still Looking To Betray Gun Owners To Democrats Even After This

One of the most basic promises that the Republican Party has campaigned on for years is the promise to protect the Constitutional liberties of the American people. And, yes, that promise includes (maybe, especially) Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

So, it would make sense that anyone elected to office as a Republican would be expected to stand up for the Second Amendment.

Sadly, though, that isn’t the case, it would seem. According to a Democrat Senator, some Republican Senators are actively talking with Democrats to put limitations on Americans’ gun rights. Jack Phillips writes,

Two senators leading negotiations on a possible deal on gun background checks confirmed that they couldn’t reach an agreement.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) told reporters on Wednesday that he was negotiating with Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) on a potential deal but talks were cut off. Murphy confirmed in a statement released later that the talks have indeed broken down.

“I’ve spent a lot of time talking with Senator Cornyn about proposals to increase background checks. I have been very open to compromise and I think Senator Cornyn was negotiating in good faith,” he said. “But we haven’t been able to get to a bill that would meaningfully increase the number of gun sales that require background checks.”

Murphy said that he is speaking with other Republican senators about other gun-control proposals.

“The good news is that I’m still talking with other Republican colleagues about different proposals to expand background checks,” he added, “and I’m committed to getting something done.”

There are Republicans who actually are talking with Democrats about expanding background checks? Seriously? What Republicans are talking about doing this? We want to know because we want them to know that their jobs are in danger.

No Republican should even be pretending to entertain expanding background checks or any other efforts to expand gun control because Republican voters don’t want that nonsense in our country.
